The Halfway Mark Evaluation

As it's been 3 weeks since we started our epic adventure, I thought I would ask my boys over dinner tonight what have been the highlights and lowlights of our trip so far... as all travel can have some very big extremes. As well as lowlights, they also included their disappointed list. I too have a list of my own... so let's compare.

The boys' Top 5 Highlights:

1. Madame Tussauds, London, England
2. Snow in summer at Mont Blanc, Chamonix, France
3. Buckingham Palace, London, England
4. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland
5. Chateau d'Origny, Ouches, France

The boys' Top 5 Lowlights:

1. Hotel Armstrong, Paris, France (room was flooded and location wasn't nice).
2. Take lots of photos for me while I'm driving!
3. It rained the day we saw the main attractions in Paris (it really has been the only day it's rained).
4. Waiting in line for over 2 hours at the Catacombs, Paris France
5. Beatrix Potter's House (it breaks my heart :( )

The boys' Top 5 Disappointments:
1. Legoland, Windsor, England
2. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
3. The Science and Industry Museum, Paris, France
4. Bad Wi-Fi connections at some hotels
5. Some of the 'free breakfasts' have been fairly ordinary.


My Top 5 Highlights:

1. Traveling through Provence, France
2. Mont Blanc, Chamonix France
3. Chateau d'Origny, Ouches, France
4. Punting on the Cam, Cambridge, England
5. Painswick, Cotswolds, England

My Top 5 Lowlights:

1. Toll Roads (can't you tell!)
2. Stingy hotel manager in Edinburgh, Scotland
3. Being scammed in Paris (twice!)
4. The Australian dollar going down at least 10% after being so strong.
5. Hotel Armstrong, Paris

My Top 5 Disappointments:

1. Legoland, Windsor, England
2. The French Riviera is just like the Gold Coast with all its high rise ugliness.
3. Liverpool was drab and dreary.
4. I packed too many winter clothes, thinking that parts of England/Scotland would be colder.
5. That I could have seen the better more romantic side of Paris, but it wasn't to be with 2 boys.

Overall, it's been an amazing trip which we will hold dear to us for the rest of our lives... still 3 more weeks to go of Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Lots to see, lots to pack in and lots more to add to our highlights and lowlights. Hope you're enjoying our little trip as much as we are. Suzy x
